A. Denture authorities agree that complete and partial dentures must be relined every 2-4 years and replaced every 5-9 years. In time, gum ridges change, but the dentures do not. As a result, dentures do not fit as well as when they were new. Relining your dentures every 2-4 years will make dentures fit as they were originally designed to fit. Artifical denture teeth have about 10% of the strength compared to your natural teeth. They wear down significantly in about 5-9 years. As denture teeth become old and dull, a denture wearer is not able to satisfactorily chew and digest food. Since the chewing is impaired, dentures become ill-fitting and painful to wear. More force than the gums can tolerate, witahout pain, is needed to satisfactorily chew food.

A. When numerous teeth must be extracted, dentures are prescribed as their replacement. Immediate dentures are designed and fabricated BEFORE natural teeth are removed. Placement of dentures immediately after extraction help gums to heal and eliminates the social and emotional inconvenience associated with being 'toothless' for any period of time.

Q. Should Crazy Glue be used to repair dentures?

A. Absolutely NOT! Glue is NOT the material to use to repair dentures. It is water soluble and contains chemcal substances...which is a poison when ingested. Crazy glue will burn the edges of the acrylic resin being repaired and distort the denture's fit. As a result, the denture will become unusable. Denture Specialists will expertly repair almost any broken or cracked denture in about a day at a reasonable cost.

Denture Specialists are dental health professionals who are formally and specifically trained in all clinical and technological aspects of design, fabrication and fitting of complete, partial and implant supported dentures. Q. How long should the fit of a denture last?

A. Some indications of the denture's fit becoming compromised would be the dentures 'slipping' every now and again, an increased amount of food getting in under the dentures, denture irrititaions becoming more frequent. With time the ridges or gums supporting the dentures will deteriorate, as this deterioration progresses, the dentures will become increasingly loose. At this time (approximately every 2-4 years) a refitting or denture reline will be required to make the denture fit as it was originally made to fit. This reline process can usually be started and completed within 24 hours.
